AQUACULTURE FISH FEED

Aquaculture fish feed is the least known type of animal feed. The first tought to think about animal feed is the feed used for either poultry or stable animals. The term “feed” is actually a term used for all cultivated farm animals. This applies to all types of animals used in commercial environments, including animals, fish, crustaceans, algae. Feed ingredients and varieties vary according to the animal. The feeds used in aquaculture should also be used carefully and thoroughly. It should not be forgotten that the feed will determine the value of the future planned fish.

FUNDAMENTALS OF AQUACULTURE FISH FEED

The use of aquaculture has been carried out since the beginning of the millennium and it has developed considerably to the present day. Millions of tons of fish are produced with different methods and different types of fish and complex farms. After detailed investigations and research programs, we learned that a complete and balanced diet program was required as a nutritious for the healthy and faster growth of fish. Therefore, feed demand for aquaculture is constantly increasing over time in the sector.

As with all livestock, aquaculture requires a steady and balanced feed flow. Proper fattening not only adds health to living things, but also plays an important role in promoting their reproduction. Ingredients used for aquaculture include:

  • Protein
  • Carbohydrates
  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Lipids and fats

Fish feeds are prepared in the form of extruded bits or pressure pelleted feed. Extruded feed will float on the surface of the water, whereas pressure-pelleted feed will sink. Extruded feeds are produced at high cost, therefore they are offered to buyers at a higher price. Aquaculture feeds are also very advantageous for observing the direct feeding habits of fish. Many marine creatures consume both floating and sinking feeds. Creatures like shrimps only consume sinking food.

There are many different fish feeds. It is recommended to take feed with the largest possible feed size to be consumed according to the animal species. This is because if the feeds are small, the fish will use more energy to find feed. In addition, large feeds that are not suitable for the species may pose a choking hazard. Therefore, choosing the right feed for the right species is one of the most important issues to be considered in purchasing.
